Huey

We just got the terrible news today that Huey and Malibu got shot (05/02/21)by the owners neighbors because they got loose but as far as we know, didn't do anything wrong. Both were the sweetest dogs.

Malibu

Just got the terrible news that Malibu (and Huey) were shot 05/02/21) by the owners neighbor because they got out of the fence but as far as we know didn't do anything wrong. They both were the sweetest dogs and we are very sad that happens to both of them.

Cody

Cody crossed the Rainbow Bridge 07/26/2022 due to cancer with his beloved owner Neil by his side. It was so very sudden, Cody got a bad cough and Neil drove to the ER where they took x-rays and found several aggressive tumors, one close to his heart. Neil adopted him when Cody was 8 years old, they lived in North Carolina but sadly he only had him for 1 1/2 years. Cody and Neil loved each other very much. R.I. P. Cody

Cody crossed the Rainbow Bridge last night. He and Neil had been here visiting in Colorado for just over 2 weeks and headed home to North Carolina the beginning of last week. While they were here, Cody was his usual, happy self - patrolling the back yard, barking at the antelope to keep them away from my yard, and camping out on the back deck surveying his "second home." We had no idea that he was having any problems.
When they got home, Cody seemed great. He resumed his patrols of the back yard and seemed happy to be back in his own house again. He started having an occasional dry cough, but nothing to signal a bigger problem until later Tuesday. Neil took him to the emergency vet clinic where they did x-rays and found that he had multiple tumors all over his body. One was pressing on his heart which caused the cough. Apparently they also found signs of internal bleeding. Neil made the hard decision to not let him go through any more. Cody passed with Neil holding his head and telling him how much he was loved.
I always said there was divine intervention in Cody and Neil coming together. Neil was going through the final stages of losing his wife of over 50 years, Christine. Cody had been surrendered to the rescue when he was about 4 years old. He had been abused by children and could barely walk due to untreated injuries to his rear legs. After going through 2 leg surgeries and about a year of rehabilitation to learn to walk and run again, Cody was finally adopted by an older couple, but then surrendered back to the rescue a year later when the couple began having health problems and could not handle him any more. Unfortunately, over the years, Cody had developed problems with distrusting a lot of people (especially children). He was passed over by many potential adopters. Neil had had many Bouvier des Flanders dogs (also a livestock guardian breed) over the years and had just lost his last one about 6 months before he told me he wanted another dog again and wanted to adopt a senior, hard to place dog from our rescue outside of Colorado Springs. I drove Cody out to Neil from Colorado to North Carolina in January, 2021. He was around 8 years old at that time. When I got Cody out of the car at Neil's house, he ran up the steps and into Neil's arms like he had known him all his life. Cody seemed to know that this was his forever home.
Christine passed away about a month and a half after Cody arrived. During that time, Cody was frequently at her side and Neil's. He was a tremendous comfort to Neil.
Over the next year and a half, the bond between Cody and Neil continued to grow. Cody was so happy and Neil found a companionship that is rarely seen between man and dog.
On looking back at the evolution of Cody and Neil's time together, I believe that God knew Cody's time with Neil would be short. He also knew the comfort they would be to each other and that Neil would stay with Cody until the end, comforting Cody as he himself had been comforted. I am so glad that God "loaned" Cody to Neil, and that He allowed me to facilitate getting them together. Cody was an amazing dog. He was loved so much by Neil and myself as well as by Judith Dole and Michael Heffron (owners of PyRescue in Peyton, Colorado) and the volunteers who cared for him in the rescue. We look forward to the day when we will see him again.
Rest in peace, Big C. You will be in our hearts forever.

BEAR (Little Bear)

Little Bear was loved by Judy & Mike and all our volunteers at the rescue. Unexpectedly he passed away Dec. 1st 2022, due what we believed was a stroke. Little Bear was very special to everybody at the rescue, although almost unadoptable because he was very anxious, nervous and always moving. He was adopted 2 times but bit somebody out of nowhere, never bit anybody at the rescue.

We will miss our Little Bear and wish him peace and love when he goes over the rainbow bridge.

Well- our Little Bear (aka Teddy Bear) is gone. One minute he was his happy little weird self, the next he had passed away in the field. We think something happened inside his head- a bad seizure or tumor burst. He always had this funny bump on top of his head, now it's gone. We are trying to find out if we can get a necropsy done- just so we know. He did not suffer. It was sudden. I will miss him terribly. He had his issues, but not with us. He was the strangest, sweetest little Pyr I've ever had. You can rest in peace now, Little Bear. See you at the Bridge.
